Background
The Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macau was formed in 1987 to facilitate business development and networking opportunities for its members. It is the largest Australian chamber outside Australia and amongst the largest international chambers in Hong Kong, reflecting the growing strength of Australian business in Greater China.

Over the past 20 years AustCham has grown to more than 1,000 corporate members and it now represents more than 550 Australian companies and a community of around 50,000. AustCham member companies employ over 200,000 people in Hong Kong, 6.2% of the workforce.

AustCham's Interests
AustCham represents the views and interests of members to government departments and other organisations in Hong Kong, Australia and China. The Chamber is an active member of the International Business Committee (IBC), which comprises of leaders of the major international chambers of commerce and business organisations who meet regularly with the Chief Secretary and other senior Hong Kong Government officials. AustCham is also a member of InterCham, an informal meeting of the various levels of the major international chambers of commerce and business organisations from Chairmen and Secretariat leaders to young professionals.

Events
The Chamber maintains a full schedule of events designed to keep members informed of developments in their field of interest and provide opportunities for them to meet with other business people and promote their businesses.

AustCham annually organises the Australia-China Business Awards for Greater China. The awards aim to promote, recognise and reward Australian companies and local companies supporting Australian goods or services, that have shown excellence, innovation and entrepreneurial skill in Greater China.

Publications
AustCham produces a monthly magazine austcham news, an annual directory,Australian Business in Hong Kong, Macau and South China and a weekly members-only Newsflash.

Board of Directors and Committees
There are 15 Directors who serve in this capacity on a voluntary basis. The Directors also serve on the Management Committees and the other committees or working groups.

AustCham's committee system is dynamic with volunteers meeting monthly to arrange functions and industry updates, as well as discussing relevant issues within their industry or business area. Almost 20% of the total membership is actively involved in one of several committees or working groups - Australian Business Awards Advisory Group, Construction, Property and Infrastructure Committee, Human Resources Committee, Sustainable Development Committee, Financial, Legal & Tax Committee, Media & Marketing Committee and Technology Committee.
