Mary Simpson
Chief Executive
Mary Simpson is the Chief Executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AustCham), bringing over 20 years of senior experience across business chambers, global professional associations, and purpose-led organisations. Originally from Australia and based in Hong Kong since 2011, she is a globally experienced executive with deep expertise in strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and membership strategy.
Prior to joining AustCham Hong Kong, Mary was Director of International Member Engagement at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). She led operations across ICAEW’s largest international regions, delivering significant growth in Hong Kong membership and doubling engagement across Hong Kong, Australasia, and the Americas. She also established and led strategic advisory groups representing these key markets and oversaw teams in both Hong Kong and London, aligning communications, event strategy, and advocacy across multiple geographies.
Mary previously held a senior role at the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, where she expanded B2B programming, redefined sponsorship strategy, and oversaw more than 400 events and initiatives annually. These included high-level delegations, global policy forums, and partnerships with C-suite and government leaders across Asia. Her capabilities include stakeholder and government relations, media and brand positioning, policy advocacy, event leadership, and institutional storytelling.
She also served as an executive consultant with the Asia Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA), where she conceptualised and delivered the organisation’s inaugural Compliance & Legal Conference, now a flagship event for the regional financial services sector. Across each role, she has built high-performing teams, launched impactful programs, and advised on brand, influence, and strategic positioning.
Mary began her career in large-scale communications and international events management for purpose-driven organisations in Australia, delivering global conferences, public campaigns, and cross-sector partnerships across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States.
She currently serves on the Board of the Pacific Basin Economic Council and holds the designation of Certified Chair™ from the Advisory Board Centre. Known for balancing strategic clarity with a collaborative, outcomes-focused leadership style, Mary is committed to strengthening Australia–Hong Kong business ties and elevating the voice and value of member-based organisations in a fast-evolving bilateral business landscape.
